THIS year's Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP4) might be a whole lot different from the previous years due to the pandemic but the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) made sure that it will be not less interesting.

"We are listening to our subscribers, producers, and the rest of our stakeholders in order to make the 4th Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino a more inclusive solidarity event. Aside from announcing the PPP4's extended duration, we are also pushing forth the 'Sama All' spirit by offering a wide array of events to further promote Philippine Cinema, encourage more viewers to learn about the art of filmmaking, and boost the thriving PPP community," said FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño.

Here are five interesting things you need to know about this year's film festival.

More films involved

If you wanted to treat yourself by binge watching Filipino films, PPP4 will make that possible as it will be featuring a total of 170 films - 90 full-length features and 80 shorts.

PPP4 presents this year's film entries in 14 sections: PPP Short Films, Romance, Youth & Family, Classics, PH Oscar Entries, Genre, Bahaghari, Tribute, From the Regions, Documentaries, PPP Retro, Special Screenings, CineMarya, and PPP Premium Selection.

Some of the must-watch films included in the line-up are "Mula sa Kung Ano ang Noon" by Lav Diaz; restored version of "Anak Dalita" by Lamberto V. Avellana; "The Helper"; "Itoshi No Irene (Come On, Irene)"; "Cleaners,"; "Blood Hunters: Rise of the Hybrids"; "He Who Is Without Sin"; "Kintsugi"; and "The Highest Peak.

Video-on-demand and livestreaming

PPP4 films can be accessed wherever you are in the country as it will be streamed on the fdcpchannel.ph platform.

The video-on-demand (VOD) streaming will be available for free for 80 short films, as well as for one full-length feature: the restored version of "Anak Dalita" by National Artist for Theater and Film Lamberto V. Avellana. The free VOD streaming is available from October 31 to December 13.

Meanwhile, the rest of the full-length features will have scheduled livestream screenings in four virtual cinemas in FDCP's Cinematheque Centres in Manila, Iloilo, Davao, and Nabunturan.

Although the FDCP Channel website is accessible worldwide, the content within the platform is geo-locked to Philippine territory only.

Long period

Organizers extended the duration of PPP4 in response to the clamor to lengthen the running period of the festival. From 16 days, it will now be available for 44 days from October 31 to December 13.

For over a month, the festival will have a PPP Short Film Showcase with an impressive lineup of Philippine shorts from the CineMarya Women's Film Festival, Sine Kabataan Short Film Competition, and 21 regional film festivals.

Beyond viewing

Aside from viewing well-curated films, subscribers will also get to learn more about filmmaking and Philippine Cinema from industry experts through numerous events such as talkback sessions, panel sessions, and master classes.

These events aim to strengthen the PPP community and promote the appreciation and love for Philippine Cinema.

There will also be the Sine Kabataan Story Development Lab from November 13 to 15 for selected filmmakers aged 18 to 30.

Subscription options

The FDCP is offering subscription options that cater to all: those who want to watch films and attend events throughout the festival's 44-day run, those who have less time to watch and join events, and those who want to access content for free.

Subscription options are the all-access Premium Festival Pass (PHP 599), the Half Run Pass (P299) for 12 days, Day Pass (P99), and Free Pass (for short films and public events).

Discounts on Premium Festival Pass and Half-Run Pass will be available beginning October 16 for persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens (20 percent) and students (30 percent).
