Philippines Covid-19 cases surge past 380,000

ALMOST 2,000 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases were reported in the country Saturday, October 31.

The Department of Health (DOH) said in its Saturday case bulletin that 1,803 new coronavirus infections were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 380,729.

Areas with the highest number of new cases are Rizal (97), Davao City (93), Quezon City (86), Cavite (66), and Pasig City (65).

The DOH also reported 36 more deaths, which brought the death toll to 7,221, as of 4 p.m. Saturday, October 31.

This also means that the country now has case fatality rate of 1.90 percent, said the DOH.

As to the number of people who recovered from the disease, the DOH announced a total of 331,046 Covid-19 recoveries with the 606 new survivors reported Saturday.

This means that 87 percent of people infected with the novel coronavirus have been able to recover, added the health department.

Globally, 44,888,869 confirmed Covid-19 cases have already been reported from at least 219 areas in the world. Of this number, 1,178,475 have died, said the World Health Organization. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
