WHENEVER we need a little cheering up, we can always count on music to lift our spirits. Luckily, we’ll have more than plenty of new music to jam to and get us through the next few months while we’re still under quarantine.

Here are five hot new albums to listen and look forward to:

“Love Goes” by Sam Smith | Release date: Oct. 30

Initially set for release last June as “To Die For,” Smith’s third album had to be postponed due to the pandemic and be retitled in consideration of recent events. In an interview, the singer dubbed it his “first proper heartbreak album.” Although Smith is known for poignant songs, this record also finds him dipping his toes in more upbeat pop music.

“Positions” by Ariana Grande | Release date: Oct. 30

Just earlier last month, Grande dropped quite the bomb when she Tweeted: “I can’t wait to give you my album this month.” To the delight of her fans, she released the title track and the official music video a week later. The singer’s sixth album will have 14 tracks, including collaborations with Doja Cat, the Weeknd and Ty Dolla Sign.

“December Baby” by JoJo | Release date: Oct. 30

A December baby herself (hence, the title), JoJo kicks off the holiday season with her first Christmas album. Aside from covers of yuletide classics, it will have originals as well. 2020 has been quite the busy year for the 29-year-old singer. In May, she released her fourth album titled “Good to Know” to critical acclaim — with acoustic and deluxe editions, to boot.

“Confetti” by Little Mix | Release date: Nov. 6

Two years since “LM5,” Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock — collectively known as British girl group Little Mix — make an exciting comeback with their sixth album. So far, three singles have been released, namely “Break Up Song,” “Holiday” and “Sweet Melody.”

“Plastic Hearts” by Miley Cyrus | Release date: Nov. 27

If Cyrus’ latest song (also the lead single of the forthcoming album) “Midnight Sky” and covers of “Heart of Glass” and “Zombie” are any indication, the young singer is set to prove that she’s more than just a star — she’s a rock star in the making. A far cry from her teeny-bopper roots, Cyrus comes into her own with a new sound — and a rockin’ new look to go with it, mullet and all.
