Suspended village chief to file motion for reconsideration

ALANG-ALANG Barangay Captain Patricio Soco of Mandaue City will file a motion for reconsideration before the Office of the Ombudsman.

This, after, Soco was allegedly involved in the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) anomaly.

On Oct. 26, 2020, the Mandaue City government served the 60-day preventive suspension to two barangay captains including Soco to prevent them from influencing the ongoing investigation.

Soco said the three violations filed against him at the Prosecutor’s Office were dismissed on Sept. 22, 2020.

These three violations are of Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, Republic Act 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act and the Republic Act or the Anti-graft and Corruption Practices Act.

With his criminal charges dismissed, Soco still has to face his administrative charges filed against him by the Office of the Ombudsman.

In his meeting with his legal counsel, Soco said they plan to file a motion for reconsideration before the Ombudsman.

Soco said they have yet to disclose their grounds for reconsideration as they are yet to finalize it.

On the other hand, Soco said he was involved in the anomaly after the barangay secretary’s husband was included on the SAP beneficiary list and received P6,000.

However, after they received reports about the secretary’s husband, they immediately returned the P6,000 to the City Treasurer’s Office.

Soco said as command responsibility, violations were charged against him.

Soco has served the first seven days of his 60-day preventive suspension.

Thus, his first councilor Celso Panares will temporarily assume as barangay captain. (KFD)
