THE local government of Apalit has warned truck operators and drivers of the strict implementation of Republic Act 8794, or the Anti-Overloading Law.
Mayor Oscar Tetangco Jr. said they are regulating the entry of all types of trucks to ensure that only vehicles that are within maximum allowable gross vehicle weight can pass through the municipality.
The reminder was made since the portion of MacArthur Highway from San Simon to Pulilan, Bulacan became the main access road for trucks going to Metro Manila after the closure of the North Luzon Expressway Candaba Viaduct to heavy vehicles to give way for its construction.
Tetangco said they are prohibiting the entry of overloaded vehicles as they are one of the major causes of fast deterioration of roads in the town.
"We are not banning trucks in our town, only those which exceeded the allowed weight limit. If you are not overloaded, you can pass by without a problem. Just present your receipt showing your total weight," the mayor said.
He advised operators and drivers to abide by the law to prevent encountering problems which also causes delay in their businesses.
"We are only implementing a national law. If your vehicle is overloaded, we have the authority to turn you down so instead of going through all the hassle, might as well just follow the law," Tetangco said.
