BenCab, Kidlat Tahimik lead creative fest

TWO national artists will lead the celebration of the Ibagiw Creative Festival.

Works of National Artist for Film Kidlat Tahimik and National Artist for Visual Arts Ben Cabrerra will be on display at the Baguio Convention Center for the month-long art festival staged in the midst of a pandemic as a testament to the tenacity of the creative sector.

The festival, with the theme, “Baguio Creative Festival: Angat Baguio Rising together through Creative Resiliency, Sustainability and Innovation,” set on November 6 to 30, is a show of force by the creative community of the city who refuse to be defeated by the pandemic.

Over 400 artists are set to collaborate and display their works for a month-long artistic exhibition staged in different venues in the city.

Now on its third year, the creative festival is celebrating the resilience and creativity of local artists and artisans, painting a picture of hope and inspiring the community in a positive perspective while looking forward to a brighter tomorrow in the midst of a pandemic, with strict measures of practicing health and safety protocols adapted.

The festival, which is under regulated health and safety protocols, will be highlighted by a contemporary art exhibit, presenting local visual artists and artisans at the Crafts Competition and Mandeko Kito: An Artisans’ Fair.

A woodcarving competition is also set to show off the most creative woodcarvers and their handiworks. Weaving, another Cordilleran cultural heritage, takes its own stellar attraction through the launch of Children’s Storybooks on Weaving. Creative and garden competitions and guided tours will also be done in limited in-person gatherings to rediscover the Baguio they know and love.
