GOVERNOR Gwendolyn Garcia clarified on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, that the plan is to build a new structure, the Cebu Provincial Government Center (CPGC), in Balamban and not transfer the Capitol building to the town.
"You can never move the Capitol and I have no intention of moving the Capitol. It is in the best place it could be in the entire country and entire Southeast Asia. Right here in kilometer zero in Cebu City," clarified Garcia.
The governor said the CPGC is intended to cater to Provincial Government services so it would be easier for the people living in the northern and southern areas of Cebu.
She also added that the CPGC is where the Provincial Government officials and the various offices in the executive department shall hold office.
She pointed out that the Capitol is where it should be.
Balamban, a first-class municipality with a population of about 90,000 along Cebu’s west coast, is accessible from Cebu City through the Transcentral Highway. It is also linked to northern and southern Cebu.
The Cebu Provincial Government has set aside P550 million under its proposed 2021 budget for the construction of a building in Balamban that will host its new offices. (ANV/RSR)
