THE Cebu Provincial Government is set to organize a mini Suroy-Suroy Sugbo activity in Bantayan Island on Nov. 28, 2020, to attract more tourists.
This is the Capitol’s way to boost tourism which has suffered from strict quarantine protocol imposed by the government to slow down the Covid-19 transmission in communities.
The other participants in the mini Suroy-Suroy Sugbo will include officials from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority, the Department of Tourism and the Department of Transportation.
Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia told reporters she plans to schedule a meeting with Bantayan Island’s three mayors on how they plan to organize the activity. The island is composed of the municipalities of Bantayan, Madridejos and Santa Fe.
The attendance in the tourism event is limited because mass gathering is still prohibited in places under modified general community quarantine.
Direct flight
The Capitol plans to introduce during the activity a direct flight from Mactan-Cebu International Airport to the community airport in Bantayan Island, which was inaugurated recently.
Garcia said she will try to book a tourism summit in Bantayan with the governors of Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor, and the provinces’ tourism officers on Nov. 27.
Cashless at CSBT
Meanwhile, the firm awarded by the Province to design, supply, install, operate and maintain a centralized automated ticketing system at the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) clarified that the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo cards that it has introduced for cashless transactions at the terminal are refundable if the user decides to return the card.
A card costs P100, and it contains P70 worth of load with a refundable deposit of P30 for the use of the card, officials of Topline Hi-Tech Synergy Corp. said in a statement sent to SunStar Cebu.
The deposit will be returned to the passenger if the passenger decides to return the card.
Topline, which was given 10 years to operate cashless system at the CSBT, is also required to pay a success fee of P100,000 to the Province. A success fee is a commission paid for a successfully completed transaction.
The cashless system at the CSBT is set to start in March next year. (ANV / JKV )
