Covid-19 testing continues in Benguet

DESPITE a plea from Governor Melchor Diclas, another batch of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) testing will be conducted in three Benguet towns this week.

At least 2,000 tests are being eyed in Itogon, while La Trinidad and Tuba will be allotted 1,000 each on November 5 and 6, sponsored by the National Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (NTF- EID) Aggressive Community Testing (ACT) program in joint coordination with local government units, Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) and John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC).

Baguio City was also allotted 1,000 tests slated Friday, November 6.

La Trinidad will test at least 700 stakeholders from the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post, 1993 and 2002 public market buildings, and 300 residents from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As of 11:20 a.m. Thursday, 133 persons were already swabbed.

Also enjoined to take part in the November 6 testing at the municipal park are stakeholders of private trading areas.

The local government of La Trinidad said the results will come out after a maximum of three days and participants of the mass testing were asked to stay at home and have a mandatory self-isolation until the results are released.

In Itogon, mandatory swab testing was conducted at the Benguet Corporation grounds for all company employees, Acupan Contract Mining Project (ACMP) contractors and its miners in Balatoc, Virac, Itogon, Benguet.

All ACMP contractors and its miners who have not yet tested in the recently conducted swab testing were required to participate, according to the internal memorandum issued by the mining company.

“Those who will fail to participate in the mandatory swab testing will be denied entry within the company premises and the underground once the order will be issued for the resumption of work, as only those who have been tested and will be declared with negative results will be allowed,” the memorandum added.

Last week, BCDA and JHMC swabbed 620 individuals in Tuba, 120 in Kapangan, 450 in La Trinidad, 98 in Tublay, 974 in Itogon and 1,789 in Baguio.

Only 65 out of the 1,789 tested in Baguio yielded positive results, while 176 was recorded in all Benguet towns tested.
