Death toll from Typhoon Rolly increases to 23

THE number of people who died from the effects of Typhoon Rolly (Goni) has increased to 23, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday, November 6, 2020.

Of the number, three were from Batangas, one from Rizal province, 13 from Albay, one from Camarines Sur, and five from Catanduanes. They died by drowning or from being hit by debris.

The disaster mitigation bureau said a total of 128 cities and municipalities were still without electricity as of Friday, five days after the typhoon barreled through Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Mimaropa and Calabarzon.

There is no water supply in 85 cities and municipalities in Bicol and Mimaropa regions.

A total of 312,583 families or 1,197,888 persons were affected in the typhoon-hit areas.

The NDRRMC assured that the government will continue to provide food and non-food relief items to the affected population.

Nearly P53 million worth of assistance has been provided to the affected families.

A total of 53,747 houses were damaged by the typhoon, particularly in Catanduanes which was almost flattened by the onslaught of Typhoon Rolly.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said damage to infrastructure and agriculture was estimated at P11.228 billion and P2.92 billion.

The Department of Public Works and Highways said clearing operations and assessment of the damaged infrastructure was ongoing.

The Department of Agriculture said it has allotted P592.432 million as indemnification fund for 32,761 affected Bicol farmers whose insured crops were damaged by Rolly. (SunStar Philippines)
