Baguio targets 1,000 Covid-19 tests

BAGUIO City targets to administer 1,000 Covid-19 tests starting November 7 in a bid to protect the community from further infection.

The City announced plans for the aggressive community testing backed by the National Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (NTF-EID) Aggressive Community Testing (ACT) program, in coordination with the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) and John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC).

The round of mass testing for Covid-19 is scheduled in Baguio City and the towns of La Trinidad, Itogon and Tuba in Benguet Province.

Baguio City is on the heels of an outbreak of infection from a city restaurant and is moving for stricter measures for establishments.

Health standards and protocols will be checked to verify if establishments are complying, and if found to be remiss, automatic closure and revocation of permits to operate will ensue.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong on Thursday, November 5, ordered the creation of an inspection team dedicated to ensuring compliance of business establishments with health and safety protocols against Covid-19 and priority for restaurant workers in the next expanded testing schedule to arrest the infection in the sector.

On Thursday afternoon, the local restaurant logged 36 employees as infected with Covid-19 and another 30 employees ordered to be on isolation, while 209 staffers are on quarantine in shelters provided by the establishment and in their homes, which are all under strict monitoring by the city and barangay health workers.
