THE Provincial Government of Negros Occidental and Association of Negros Producers (ANP) broke ground for the construction of a hub poised to further boost micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the province.

The provincial government and ANP along with the Talarak Foundation earlier entered into a usufruct agreement for the latter to use the Capitol-owned property at the Negros Forest Park along South Capitol Road in Bacolod City for 25 years.

The organization is utilizing 1,000-square meter portion of the area for the construction of the ANP MSME Hub.

The provincial government also provided P5 million to fund the construction of the hub that will house the business and training center, showroom, office and the Bugana Market.

Its target completion is on March 2021.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, who led the groundbreaking ceremony last week, expressed hopes that the hub will serve as a place where the ANP can help MSMEs in the province to showcase their products.

ANP president Arlene Infante, who was also at the groundbreaking, said the facility will also serve as the newest tourism hub in the province and Bacolod City.

The association earlier said it is committed to work alongside Talarak Foundation in its holistic approach to promote the whole area into a tourism and activity hub.

The provincial government's support is timely to sustain local MSMEs amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, it added.

Also present during the groundbreaking were Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz II, ANP chairperson Christina Gaston and other officers of the association, and Paul Lizares of Talarak Foundation.

Lizares, for his part, said he is happy to have shared the province's property with the ANP.

They look forward to many years of partnership with the local producers' group to support the province.
