VIOLATORS penalized for not wearing face mask in public have rendered community service, helping the Iloilo City Government Beautification Program.

Some 16 violators have served their penalties by augmenting City Hall personnel in cleaning, greening and beautifying streets and open spaces all over the metropolis.

After rendering their service, they were given a certificate of completion.

This type of penalty is provided under Regulation Ordinance (RO) 2020-085, amending the penalties of RO 2020-061 that mandates the wearing of a face mask or face covering in public during a pandemic/epidemic period to increase the fine and include community service of eight hours for three consecutive days.

Netizens praised the idea of introducing beautification efforts for violators of health standards in preventing possible spread of the novel coronavirus.

"This is the best punishment for violators Mayor! Hopefully everyone will learn their lesson that this is being imposed for everyone's safety and in the end, they will also learn to appreciate a clean and beautiful place and community to live in," said Julie Corcino Baylon.

"It's a win-win situation," added Jerome Angelo Sorenio. (PR)
