THE Cebu City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has recommended for an indefinite closure of the newly-opened shoe center located in Barangay Lahug.

This came after a number of people who trooped to the store for its grand opening Wednesday, November 11, were seen not observing social distancing. Reports said the customers were lining up as early as 4 a.m. just to get inside the store, which was offering a "3 for 998" shoe sale.

Councilor Joel Garganea, EOC deputy chief implementer, said the store owner will also be held liable if there will be a surge of Covid-19 cases in the coming days, and the common source of infection in the conduct of contract tracing will be from the area.

If that happens, Garganera said legal actions will be taken against the owner of the shoe center.

“Sa umaabot nga mga adlaw, if we will have a sudden rise of cases and the common ground that they have, in one way or another, visited the area, the perimeter of that store, then we will file appropriate action to the said establishment,” said Garganera.

He said the EOC will also coordinate with the barangay to know if the village knows about the event.

He also reminded the public not to forget observing the health protocols and that safety should be the primordial concern.

“They should look into their own safety... what if naay transmission didto, naay nagpositive didto? So you’re bringing aside from the shoes, you’re bringing Covid to your dwelling,” said Garganera. (JJL)
