Masantol village folks evacuated ahead of 'Ulysses'

AT LEAST 22 families from Barangay Sapang Kawayan in Masantol, Pampanga were evacuated Wednesday, November 11, 2020, ahead of the onslaught of severe tropical storm “Ulysses” and due to the threat of a storm surge in their area.

The local government in the town implemented precautionary measures to cushion the expected landfall of severe tropical storm "Ulysses."

Mayor Danilo Guintu convened the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) early Wednesday to discuss necessary activities that must be conducted to ensure the safety of residents.

According to MDRRMC Officer Paul Magat, all evacuation centers in the town, especially those in coastal barangays, were also set in case more residents need to be transferred.

"We also have food packs prepared for distribution for our evacuees as well as those who might be affected by the storm," he said.

Disaster vehicles and equipment were likewise prepositioned in case they are needed for evacuation and other operations, Magat said.

"The MDRRMC, led by our Mayor Dan Guintu, advises the public to take precautionary measures and cooperate with the evacuation team in case your area will be affected," he said.

As of Wednesday noon, Masantol along with municipalities of Candaba, Arayat, Sta. Ana, San Luis, San Simon, Sto. Tomas, Apalit, Minalin, Bacolor, Sta. Rita, Guagua, Macabebe, Sasmuan, Lubao and City of San Fernando were placed under Signal No. 3, while the rest of Pampanga were under Signal No. 2.
