THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Negros Occidental-North reached out to differently-abled persons of Barangay 14 in Bacolod City and its neighboring communities by distributing toiletries and vitamins earlier this week.

The gift-giving activity benefited about 150 persons with disabilities (PWDs) of Puroks Apolinario Mabini, Ramon Magsaysay, Jose Rizal and Boulevard of the barangay, which has a total of 5,874 population.

Each received a gift pack with a box of Vitamin C, a big pack of toilet tissue paper, two bottles of 500 milliliters of alcohol and four bars of germicidal soap.

"It is our desire to give full support for the protection and improvement of the well-being of our elderly," the agency said.

DAR-Negros Occidental Chief Administrative Officer Ma. Corazon Mondia, who led the activity, said "through this activity, we are inspiring your respective families and your community to reaffirm the strong family ties of the valued Filipino tradition of caring for you, the senior citizens."

The gift-giving is in-line with the provision stated by the Republic Act 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act and the recent resolutions of the Government Procurement Policy Board on procurement under emergency cases.

The barangay officials thanked DAR-Negros Occidental for its response to their call for help.

DAR-Negros Occidental said such continuous activities conducted by the agency are evidence that the service to the people continues despite the challenges brought by the pandemic.

With Negros Occidental still under the modified general community quarantine, the activity complied with minimum health protocols set by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Department of Health, it added. (EPN)
