Good things come in boxes

Good things come in boxes

MOVEMENT and mass gathering restrictions may have limited our plans but it sure did not stop us to celebrate Christmas, the very season of giving. Because of quarantine, small-scale entrepreneurs who love crafts and DIY projects are inspired to venture into creative and fun businesses that are ideal for gift-giving.

A few businesses on gift boxes in Davao City have since emerged during the duration of the quarantine. They may vary in terms of the contents of the boxes and the designs but they have one common denominator: the convenience and the chicness of "good things in a box" concept.

1. Boxify

As most small businesses go, Boxify came into fruition when the owner Dianne Brown experienced firsthand the difficulty of curating her own gift boxes for her wedding in 2018. She had to get her supplies from Manila and manually shred the papers for fillers to give a DIY-vibe for her wedding giveaways to the members of her entourage. Eventually, she realized that this is a good business opportunity as not a lot of businesses in Davao City have ventured into curated gift boxes for events like weddings, anniversaries, and Christmas.

"When choosing for the best gift box option, we prepared a list of pre-curated boxes for our clients. Prices usually depend on the content of the boxes chosen. Our clients have the option to choose among our sample sets from our product catalogue, Facebook and IG posts or we can help them curate their own boxes depending on the occasion, personal gift preference and item availability," Dianne shares.

A quick visit to their social media accounts will give you a peek of the sample contents of their boxes from chic coffee mugs, name-plated journals, scented candles, and so much more. Customers can also choose to have personalized note cards included in the box.

2. Party Invites by Pinkay's Hands

Xyla Bianca Clarito has always been fond of crafts as a little girl. In 2014, she started making birthday invites for nieces and nephews. Eventually, the business grew to also cater to requests of close friends. As the business grew to clients in different parts of the country, she decided to also evolve as a business. She partnered with home-grown brands in Davao City selling frozen goods and soap for their stickers and labels.

"Working with these brands, we were able to come up with different gift boxes for special themes and occasions. Since the pandemic, I have also curated packages with items that are essential for the new normal, including personalized masks and alcohol bottles," said Xyla who added that she continues to research to develop her product and to make sure that she caters to what her clients would like to have.

3. Kahon Davao

The team behind Kahon Davao has a different and a romantic backstory behind the founding of their business. With the quarantine, they realized the need to create a practical way of sending gifts and care packages to friends and family. Eventually their #quarantinegoodiebox was born.

"Sending your loved one a Kahon is the easiest way to show you care. We also wanted to offer the couples quarantined at home together a different way to date in the time of COVID-19. Our #quarantinegoodiebox is good for two. Kahon is best when shared," Kahon Davao said.

Currently, they have the Savory Box (four meaty sliders, four croquettes, four chicken wings, two bottles of Pink Punch, and two dips) and the Sweet Box (cupcakes, cathedrals, butter cookies, chocolate chip cookies, dough bites, and lemonsito bars, crackolates, and Tropical Punch). On top of that clients can also personalize it with love letters or greeting cards.
