WHEN people ask me how I got into art, it is because of my brother Edbon Sevilleno. He is our eldest and I am the youngest and we have a love-hate relationship even before. Maybe as siblings often have, more so as artists.

As far as I can remember, I have always seen my brother Edbon painting or drawing. If he is not doing these two things, then he is thinking of other things that he wants to do. That is why this Covid situation and the forced homestay are not new to him anymore.

As Edbon was brainstorming something relevant for his art installation proposal for Viva Excon, he had passed by his artist daughters' bedroom during the wee hours of the night and got captured by the luminous colors of the scene while they busied themselves browsing on their phones. With this, it got him thinking of the concept that an artist, in spite of isolation, can still manage to be creative, if not more.

Bedko, a wordplay on the Corona Virus Disease 2019 acronym (COVID-19), is a rabbit hole of an art installation featuring retrospectives of, recent works by, and 'what's next' for artist Edbon Sevilleno, all held in The Black Room in the Art District in Bacolod City. With everyone being stuck at home, this work of modern art is an artist's room and, at the same time, the artist's subconscious.

Edbon Sevilleno's BEDKO installation and art exhibit in the Art District in Mandalagan is part of the VIVA ExCon 2020 'DASUN'. DASUN or 'what now' also thrives to present and seeks out to understand the relation of the artist and his works to his community, the 'now', and the possible futures.

In this installation, you can see the different series that the artist has done throughout the years and you can see how these series evolved. I personally love stories and Saydwok series hits the right spot. These are actually numbered prints from bigger watercolor paintings that tell about the stories of people in Central Market.

What is nice about this installation art is that you can buy some of the pieces that are for sale. Then you can have a piece of the installation for your own. You can find him online through his FB page: www.facebook.com/EdbonSevillenoArt.

But of course, you can always visit BEDKO and experience it firsthand. So, Covid or BEDKO?
