The Manila Chooks TM was cleared to compete in the 2021 FIBA 3X3 Doha World Tour Masters after the results of their RT-PCR tests came back negative for Covid-19.
The quartet, which is composed of Cebuano forward Leonard “Santi” Santillan, Joshua Munzon, Alvin Pasaol and Troy Rike, got the results on Tuesday afternoon. However, the International Basketball Federation did not make the results of the tests of the other competing teams available.
Despite the negative tests, the team said that they aren’t allowed to go outside of their hotel because of strict local regulations.
"Hindi pa rin makalabas kaya review muna ng video at exercise muna rito sa kwarto," said team captain Pasaol, who is roommates with Santillan.
Hotel-venue-hotel will be the protocol of the teams once given the go-signal. The hotel is 12.1-kilometers away from the Al Gharafa Sports Complex.
"Okay lang naman sa amin yun kasi business trip naman talaga ito," said Santillan.
The organizers of the tournament have yet to publish both the groupings of the tournament and the itinerary for the next two days.
Also competing in the event that has $40,000 for the champion team, $30,000 for second, $20,000 for third place, $12,000 for fourth, and $6,000 for fifth are Liman and UB of Serbia; Riga of Latvia; NY Harlem and Princeton of USA; Lausanne of Switzerland; Jeddah and Riyadh of Saudi Arabia; Kamakura and Yoyogi of Japan; Bielefeld of Germany; Utana of Lithuania; and home team Lusail.
