CEBU City Mayor Edgardo Labella welcomes the appointment of House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco as caretaker of his city’s north district following the death of Representative Raul del Mar on Monday, November 16, 2020.
Labella said he is set to meet with Velasco to discuss concerns related to the north district.
Labella will bring to Velasco some matters that would guide the speaker in handling the north district of Cebu City.
Labella also said he welcomes Velasco’s appointment, considering the latter’s background as an experienced public servant.
Just before becoming a congressman in 2010, Velasco served as provincial administrator of Marinduque, his home province from 2008 to 2009.
He is also confident that Velasco can handle the north district’s affairs.
Representative Rodrigo Abellanosa (Cebu City, south), a partymate of del Mar in Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK), said having Velasco as the caretaker “will be to the best interest” of the entire city.
Abellanosa had expressed that he wanted Velasco to assume as the caretaker of the first district of Cebu City.
Velasco’s designation as caretaker was “upon the wishes of the late del Mar, as communicated by his family and constituency.”
Velasco was chosen as the caretaker on Nov. 18 through the motion of Deputy Majority Leader Xavier Romualdo. (JJL)
