Bacolod council approves P19-M additional bonus for employees

THE Bacolod City Council approved the P19-million appropriation ordinance for the performance-based bonus (PBB) of the city’s employees during the regular session of the City Council on Wednesday, November 18, 2020.

Councilor Renecito Novero, majority floor leader, said Thursday the fund will be taken from the Special Purpose Appropriation-Other Personnel Benefits Fund under the 2020 Annual Budget.

He said the PBB will be released this month or before the end of the year.

He added the four department offices will receive a 65-percent bonus of their salary and the remaining offices will get a 57.5-percent bonus.

Novero said there will be a filtering process to determine those who will receive the PBB.

Bacolod City is among the select local government units (LGUs) eligible to grant the 2019 PBB for its employees.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has informed Mayor Evelio Leonardia of this authority to grant the PBB.

The PBB is an incentive mechanism to reward local government employees for good governance and meritorious performance as an LGU.

DILG Assistant Regional Director Maria Calpiza Sardua earlier informed City Director Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag that Bacolod City is one of the 11 LGUs in Western Visayas that qualified for the 2019 PBB.

This after Bacolod City became a national awardee of the 2019 Seal of Good Local Governance Award (SGLG) from the DILG in November 2019.

In December 2019, Bacolod was also hailed as the overall “Best Performing LGU–City Category in Western Visayas” at the awarding ceremony of the DILG 2019 Excellence in Local Governance Awards.

Bacolod was one of only 57 out of 145 cities in the country and one of the only three cities in Negros Occidental to have received the SGLG award for 2019.
