Sinas picks Cebu to hold thanksgiving

NEWLY-INSTALLED Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas will visit the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7) as part of his first Cebu visit.

Sinas was last in Cebu in 2019 after he was promoted director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) following a two-year stint as PRO 7 director.

Police Brigadier Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro, PRO 7 director, said that part of Sinas’ itinerary in Cebu is to visit the new molecular laboratory at the headquarters of the Cebu City Police Office in Camp Sotero Cabahug.

Sinas will also meet with Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma at the Archbishop’s Palace for a thanksgiving mass just before attending to the arrival honors at the PRO 7 headquarters in Camp Sergio Osmeña.

“Our chief PNP chose Central Visayas, particularly Cebu, to hold a thanksgiving through prayer and to visit the troops,” Ferro told reporters on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020.

After the arrival honors, Sinas will then lead a command conference at PRO 7 with the region’s police officials.

Ferro said Sinas will be instituting 41 directives on his stint as PNP Chief, with core emphasis on the police’s operational and administrative work.

Also, Sinas plans to continue the campaign against illegal drugs on orders of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Sinas is the 25th PNP chief and is the third police official appointed to the post by Duterte since assuming office in 2016.

Just before becoming PNP Chief, Sinas courted controversy as NCRPO chief when he allowed a “mañanita” or birthday salubong held for him in May 2020 even though the entire NCR was placed on strict community quarantine.

Upon assuming as PNP Chief, Sinas has called upon the public to not look at the “mañanita” controversy as basis of his leadership but on his achievements as a police official. / AYB / JKV
