THE Population and Immigration Authority of Israel (Piba) is offering home-based caregiving jobs to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the hotel sector as hotels remained closed due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
In an advisory, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) said qualified hotel housekeeper applicants with complete documentary requirements may apply.
"Due to the unforeseen pandemic and uncertainty of the hotel employment situation, coupled with the closure of most of the Israel hotels, it is not possible for the hotels to employ the applicant hotel workers at this time," said POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia.
Under the setup, upon his/her application as home-based caregiver, his/her status in the hotel workers database will be cancelled, said the POEA chief.
But if the applicants are not chosen in the 75 percent random selection, Olalia said applicants may be reinstated in the hotel workers database as long as there are no other impediments.
Olalia said Piba provided the update as part of the implementation of the "Bilateral Agreement on the Temporary Employment of Filipino workers in the Hotel Sector" between the Philippines and Israel.
Previously, the two countries signed a labor pact with the aim of hiring 5,000 Filipino hotel workers in Israel. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
