THE 120 personnel of the Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) can finally go home after eight months of being separated from their families because of the coronavirus pandemic.

They have been in the front line in the fight against the virus since the city was placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) at the end of March.

To protect their loved ones from infection, the DRRMO personnel were not allowed to go home.

Buddy Alain Ybañez, DRRMO head, said that since the number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the city has gone down, they’ve allowed personnel to render 24-hour duty every other day.

For eight months, home for the DRRMO personnel was the parking building in front of the City Hall. They slept on the second and third floors and gathered and ate on the ground floor.

Now that they can spend time with their family, Ybañez advised them to refrain from joining gatherings and going out to public places.

Personnel who have family members with existing health conditions are opting to remain in the parking building.

With things slowly going back to normal with the gradual opening of the city’s economy, Ybañez said that they have been conducting refresher courses and trainings during break time.

He said they have been focusing on responses to motor vehicle accidents and different disasters like fire, typhoon and flooding, among others. (KFD)
