Ambush in Badian kills woman, injures 2 others

A 31-YEAR-OLD housemaid was killed while two others were hurt after the tricycle they were riding was ambushed by unidentified assailants in the southwestern town of Badian on Saturday morning, Nov. 21, 2020.

Local police have yet to determine the motive for the attack, which took place in Sitio Bolobogan, Barangay Basak.

The victim was identified as Arlene Buenafe.

Buenafe and her 55-year-old employer Lolita Yong were on board the tricycle driven by Gilbert Jorolan, 59. Another passenger, a 16-year-old, was unhurt.

Lt. Alexius S. Tangub, Badian Police Station chief, said the tricycle was on its way to Barangay Dobdob when two men on board a motorcycle started tailing them.

A witness told police that while Jorolan was attempting to maneuver a steep portion of the road, the motorcycle approached the tricycle. The backrider suddenly pulled out a pistol and shot the victims several times before fleeing.

Buenafe, who was hit in the chest and back, was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital. Jorolan and Yong, who suffered minor wounds, were taken to a private hospital in Cebu City.

Police recovered four empty shells from a .9mm pistol and two live bullets at the crime scene.

Stangub said they received information that one of the victims had a personal grudge with an unidentified person. (GPL / JKV)
