Ifugao boxing sensation Martin in Cebu

CARL Jammes Martin will be seeing action in Omega Pro Sports International’s (OPSI) two-part “bubble” boxing at the IPI Compound, Cebu City on Dec. 18. Martin’s camp has already agreed verbally to fight in the upcoming Cebu event and is set to sign his fight contract.

“I think it’s good to go already. They have already agreed verbally. We already sent the contract last week,” said OPSI vice president Jerome Calatrava.

Martin, 21, will be up against a yet-to-be-determined opponent in “Kumbati 7” or the second part of the “bubble” boxing show at 7 p.m.

Martin, a native of Lawage, Ifugao, is one of the hottest young prospects from the Philippines right now. He was very busy in 2019 with four fights before being sidelined because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Martin, nicknamed the “Wonder Boy,” started 2019 with a third round stoppage of Petchchorhae Kokietgym on Feb. 16, 2019 in Quezon City. He handily beat another Thai, Yutthichai Wannawong via a first round technical knockout on June 9, 2019, following it up with a seventh round stoppage of veteran Benezer Alolod on Sept. 20, 2019, before capping off his year with a third round demolition of Philip Luis Cuerdo on Dec. 21, 2019.

Martin is 15-0 with 14 knockouts and is currently rated No. 39 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) in the stacked bantamweight division.

“Kumbati 7” is headlined by a 10-round bout between International Boxing Federation (IBF) No. 7 ranked light flyweight Christian Araneta (18-1, 14 KOs) and Roland Jay Biendema (15-6-1, 8 KOs).

Pete Apolinar (12-1, 8 KOs) faces Danny Tampipi (9-11-2, 5 KOs) in the 10-round co-main event. In the undercard, Albert Pagara (32-1, 23 KOs) takes on Virgil Puton (18-14-2, 9 KOs) in an eight-rounder, while Franco Serafica (3-1, 1 KO) slugs it out with Matthew Fondales (1-2) in a four-round fight.
