Foodie list: What’s new, Cebu?

ANOTHER week, another roundup. If you’ve been following SunStar Live! for a while now, then you probably already know that the team is always on the lookout for new eats, food haunts and hangouts in the metro.

Here are what got our attention in the last week:

Culu Culu Japanese Long Soft Cream | Where: SM Seaside City Cebu

Soft serve ice cream or soft cream in Japan, is a well-loved treat even during winter. It highlights quality ingredients, especially the milk used. Culu Culu’s soft cream is served at a towering height and in colorful and fun flavors like Milky Strawberry, Yellow Mango, Blue Vanilla and Lala Melon.

Smoke Stack | Where: @smokestackcebu (Facebook)

It’s a labor of love in every slab of Smoke Stack’s Wagyu and Angus beef brisket. The superior-quality meats are seasoned and smoked to mouthwatering perfection, made available in big cuts or in set meals and rice meals. The pork ribs, pulled pork and smoked sausages are also must-tries.

Frenchy’s Loaded Fries | Where: @frenchycebu (Facebook)

Eyes on the fries, they say, and we’ve got ours on these loaded fries from Frenchy. Choose from seven filling variants: Philly Cheesesteak, Meat Combo, Pepperoni, Jalapeño Bacon, Cheeseburger, Seafood Combo and Tuna Melt.

Sapori Italiani’s Neapolitan Pizzas | Where: @saporiitalianicebu (Facebook)

This home-based business takes pride in its 10-inch hand-tossed Neapolitan pizzas that come in 16 flavors. Don’t stop at the classic Margherita, Marinara and Quattro Formaggi. Surprise your palate with interesting combinations like Italian sausages and broccoli rabe, and frankfurters and French fries.

Hosaku Trays’ Baked Sushi Cake | Where: @hosakutrayscebu (Facebook)

If you’ve always wanted to try a different centerpiece for your spread on special occasions, now’s your chance as Hosaku Trays recently unveiled a cake version of its sushi bake. Pre-order for the holidays and choose from its classic flavors or opt for the newer and instant favorites, Niniku (shrimps and scallops with a roasted garlic and sesame sauce) and Karai Unagi (eel, chili, cucumber, kani and black masago).

FamilyMart Cebu’s Onigiri | Where: Phoenix Banilad, Phoenix V. Rama and Banawa

These Japanese rice triangles wrapped in nori pack in a lot of umami that will leave you wanting more. Great as a light meal or for snacking, it comes in beef yakiniku, grilled salmon, tuna mayo, umami spicy chicken, Spam and even local flavors like bagoong and pork sisig.

Potato Rhyme’s Long Fries | Where: Sugbo Mercado, Cebu IT Park

These are the first long fries in Cebu and conveniently, Potato Rhyme delivers too. But if you want to get them hot and fresh from the fryer, drop by Sugbo Mercado from Wednesday to Sunday. Flavors include cheese, barbecue, sour cream, nachos overload, triple cheese and chocolate (don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!).

The Chocolate Chamber’s Beer-infused Mini Cakes | Where: Robinsons Galleria Cebu

These cakes come in a set of three: Torta de Cerveza Negra, Red Horse Chocolate Cake and Torta de San Miguel. The cake batter makes use of local beers in place of milk and water for that distinct aroma and bittersweet chocolatey goodness.
