A JOINT team of soldiers, Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) alumni and school teachers work hand-in-hand in the conduct of "Brigada Eskwela" in Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.
The activity was jointly undertaken last week by the troops of the 53rd Infantry Battalion (IB), YLS alumni and teachers at the Bagong Oroquieta Elementary School in Guipos.
Lieutenant Colonel Jo-ar Herrera, commander of the 53IB, said the activity aims to bring together all education stakeholders to participate and contribute their time, effort and resources to keep the public schools surroundings well-maintained.
Herrera said the team worked in repainting the classrooms and cleaning the school's surroundings with the use of grass cutter and other cleaning materials.
Herrera said the youth leaders, teachers, and troopers, ensured that the school maintained cleanliness even amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
He said the team earlier conducted a feeding program for the children studying at Katipunan Primary School also in Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.
He said the team also distributed slippers for the children and conducted Brigada Eskwela thereafter with this year's theme: "Pagpapanatili ng Bayanihan Tungo sa Kalidad na Edukasyon para sa Kabataan."
The Brigada Eskwela is the yearly National Maintenance Week initiated by the Department of Education. (SunStar Zamboanga)
