Farmer dies in highway collision

A FARMER died in a highway collision that involved a 22-wheeler Sinotruk tractor and a motorcycle in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Tuesday, November 24.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident took place around 8:45 p.m. Monday in San Jose village, Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Duco identified the fatality as Larry Castillo Lozada, 45, who was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Duco said that Lozada was driving a motorcycle when he accidentally bumped on the rear of the tractor head driven by Rommel Renquijo Avenido, 39, who stopped his vehicle at an ascending curved road.

Avenido told the police that he stopped to fix the loosen rear wheel of the truck when suddenly, a motorcycle driven by Lozada bumped the rear portion of vehicle, which was loaded with bags of cement.

Avenido said he was traveling from Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur to deliver cement in Dipolog City, Zamboanga Del Norte at the time of the accident. (SunStar Zamboanga)
