Laity group to mark 500 years of Christianity

THE Council of the Laity of the Archdiocese of San Fernando Pampanga is launching a year-long celebration of the 500th year of Christianity in the Philippines.

The celebrations will be launched on November 28 at 2:30 PM with a mass to be presided by San Fernando Archbishop Florentino Lavarias, D.D.

The group is set to host a series of online conferences with the theme "Shema: Hear the Groaning of Mother Earth; Hear the Cry of the Poor; Hear the Call and Promise for Unity and Solidarity."

"Shema" is a Greek work found in the beginning of the book of Deuteronomy.

The online conferences will be held on the following dates:

December 5, 9 a.m., "Shema: Groaning of Mother Earth" with Brother Rox Pena as speaker and Sr. Marissa Figueroa as reactor.

December 12, 9 a.m., "Shema: The Cry of the Poor" with lawyer Alex Lacson as speaker and Brother Michael Lapid as reactor.

January 16, 9 a.m., "Shema: The Call and Promise for Unity and Solidarity" with a CBCP Representative as speaker and Sis. Marilou Barotac as reactor.

The activities will be streamed live on Zoom and Facebook pages of the Archdiocese and the Archdiocesan radio station, RW91.9FM.

On the launching day, a talk on "Pananampalataya at Panata ng mga Pilipinong Laiko sa Panahon ng Pandemya" by Dr. Erickson Javier will follow the mass, and Edna Gueco will be the reactor.
