Barangays serve notices to illegal structure owners

THE barangays already served notices to owners of illegal structures in various areas in Bacolod City.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran stressed this Tuesday, November 24, after the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) ordered the resumption of the Road Clearing Operation 2.0 (RCO 2.0), which resumed on November 16.

Familiaran said most of the barangays already cleared the illegal structures within their areas of jurisdiction except for those who have legal issues.

"We have due process so they need to follow it and they were also given enough time to remove their illegal structures," he said.

He added the barangay officials were also given two months to remove the illegal structures within areas of jurisdiction.

Familiaran noted that in 2019, DILG has given Bacolod City an 87 percent on its accomplishment on road clearing operations. The barangays will focus on streets only because under the areas placed under the general community quarantine (GCQ), the RCO 2.0 will be a partial implementation.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año earlier said that with the flattened Covid-19 curve and improved quarantine classification in various areas of the country, RCO 2.0 will officially commence from November 16, 2020, until January 15, 2021.

He said the full implementation of RCO 2.0 will be enforced in areas under modified enhanced general community quarantine and partial implementation in areas under GCQ.

RCOs in local government units placed under modified enhanced community quarantine and enhanced community quarantine are suspended.

Familiaran said next month, if the City Government will be placed under the modified GCQ, the city will impose the full implementation of RCO 2.0.

He said the barangays were also tasked to submit a report to the City Mayor's Office that will be submitted to the DILG-Bacolod.
