CCPO still unmasking lawyer Wee’s killers

THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is up against a blank wall in its efforts to identify the killers of lawyer Joey Luis Wee.

The lawyer was gunned down outside his offfice in Barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City on Monday afternoon, Nov. 23, 2020.

The two men who attacked Wee in broad daylight were hired guns, the police believe.

CCPO Director Josefino Ligan said they already obtained a copy of the video from a security camera, which captured the crime. The investigators, said Ligan, have difficulty identifying the assailants as both covered their faces with bonnets.

Ligan refused to show the video to the media as it still has to be enhanced.

However, Ligan narrated the incident that was captured by the security camera.

The two unidentified men came rushing toward Wee. One of the gunmen shot Wee, while the other aimed a gun at the lawyer’s wife.

Once enhanced, the video will be compared by the investigators to the other videos of shooting incidents in Cebu City to seek clues on the identities of the killers.

The culprits fled on a motorcycle. Crime scene investigators determined that the assailants used a .45 pistol after they recovered empty shells of bullets compatible for the same

firearm.

Ligan described the killers’ attitude as determined.

The assailants, he said, were possibly in a hurry, extricating themselves as fast as they could as there were several checkpoints in the city.

Ligan said they are looking into Wee’s job as a lawyer because the victim had handled high-profile cases.

Investigators, he said, will interview Wee’s wife and fellow employees in the law office to extract more information about the victim.

Ligan urged the victim’s family to turn over Wee’s cell phone to investigators so they can check the last persons who had communication with Wee and if the lawyer had received threats before the murder. / AYB
