Coronavirus cases fall below 1,500 for 2nd day

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, reported 1,202 new coronavirus infections, lower than 1,500 for the second day, as tests remained below 20,000 a day.

As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, the total case count in the Philippines was 422,915, including 27,745 active cases, referring to coronavirus-positive persons who are still in the hospitals or in quarantine.

Tests conducted on November 24 reached only 18,804, less than 20,000 for the third day. Of the total tests, 995 or 5.3 percent yielded positive results.

The DOH case bulletin also showed 31 additional mortalities, raising the death toll from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to 8,215. The case fatality rate remained at 1.94 percent.

There were an additional 183 recoveries, bringing the total to 386,955.

Among the cities and provinces with the highest number of new infections, Davao City topped the list again with 137, followed by Quezon City with 68, Batangas with 59, Laguna with 54 and Cavite with 47.

On November 24, DOH reported 1,118 cases, the lowest in the recent 20 days. Only 16,225 tests were conducted a day earlier, the DOH bulletin showed. (Marites Villamor-Ilano/SunStar Philippines)
