MOTORCYCLE owners in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) registered starting 2018 will start receiving their new plates from the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

Francis Ray Almora, LTO–CAR regional director, said the releasing of the new plates is in compliance with Republic Act (RA) 11235 or the “Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act” signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in 2019 as part of the government’s push to prevent the use of motorcycle in crimes.

“These new plates are designed to be bigger, more readable, color-coded, have an RFID sticker, QR (quick response) code, reflectorized sheeting, and are compliant with the requirements of Republic Act 11235,” Almora said.

A single plate will only be issued per registered motorcycle with the corresponding RFID sticker designated to be placed at the rear of the motorcycle.

Fabricated plates having the same detailed features as the official plates are discouraged as riders will be charged for illegal display of plates.

“As per the Implementing Rules and Regulations of RA 11235, the new plates must be bigger, more readable, color-coded, made of metal for the rear and a decal or sticker for the front of the motorcycle,” Almora said.

For motorcycles that may have been sold by the owner to another individual, RA 11235 states the new owner only has five days (including holidays and weekends) to transfer a motorcycle’s title to his name.

The seller, on the other hand, has just three calendar days to report the sale from the date of sale. Motorcycles registered in 2017 down will follow.
