THE City Government of Bacolod will hold a surveillance testing for the novel coronavirus to all food delivery drivers in the city on November 28 and 29, 2020.
Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, cluster head on markets and Bacolod Quick Response Team, on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, said the swab testing will be held at the Bacolod Respiratory Operation (BRO) Center at the Bacolod Arts, Youth and Sports Center (BaysCenter).
“We want to ensure that our food delivery drivers are not carriers of Covid-19. They are delivering door-to-door so we should ensure that they are not infected with the virus," he said.
Aside from food delivery drivers, they also invited public utility jeepney drivers to join the surveillance testing.
Pineda said they held a meeting with the management of food delivery services and driver associations in the city last week. The driver’s association leaders will organize their groups to undergo swab testing.
Pineda said they are eyeing about 800 drivers to join the surveillance testing. Those who will test positive for the virus will be extracted and transferred to the city's quarantine facility.
In October, more than 1,000 market vendors from three major public markets and government employees underwent reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests for the novel coronavirus.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia earlier said the fight against Covid-19 needs the participation and cooperation of everyone to succeed and cannot be done by the government alone.
