UP Manila graduate tops physician exam

UNIVERSITY of the Philippines (UP) Manila graduates, led by topnotcher Jomel Garcia Lapides, dominated the November 2020 Physician Licensure Examination based on the results released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in the early hours of Thursday, November 26, 2020.

Of the 4,704 examinees, PRC said 3,538 or about 75 percent passed the examination given by the Board of Medicine in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan De Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga.

The results were released in seven working days from the last day of examination.

Among those who passed is Janine Patricia “Tricia” Robredo, a daughter of Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo.

In a Twitter post Thursday morning, Robredo said, “Our children’s achievements are always sweeter than our own. Congratulations, Trish. Thank you for making us proud many times over.”

Lapides, a graduate of UP Manila, topped the examination with a rating of 88.67 percent.

Seven other UP Manila graduates were among the 20 examinees who landed in the top 10 slots.

Only one examinee from outside Luzon made it to the top 10.

Here are the top 10 PLE examinees:

  2. Patrick Joseph Mabugat (University of Saint La Salle) and Adrian Emmanuel Teves (University of Santo Tomas) - 88.58 percent
  3. Henrick Ryan Fong (UST) and Raphael Cecilio Rodolfo (UP Manila) - 88.33 percent.
  4. Rafael Emmanuel Mendoza (Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health) - 88.17 percent
  5. Hannah Chito (UP Manila), Chino Paolo Samson (Lyceum Northwestern University in Dagupan City) and Tiffany Grace Uy (UP Manila) - 88.08 percent
  6. Florence Marie Maramba (UST) - 88 percent
  7. Czarina Angelli Anastacio and Ernest Paul Calasanz (Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila) - 87.92 percent
  8. Jem Marie Golbin and Eric David Ornos (UP Manila) - 87.75 percent
  9. Louie Lorenzo Alcantara (Ateneo) and Mark Dumago (UST) - 87.67 percent
  10. John Raphael Almanza (UP Manila), Christian John Capirig (Davao Medical School Foundation), Markyn Jared Kho (UP Manila) and Chelsea Colleen Paris (Ateneo) - 87.58 percent.
