A POLICEMAN and eight other persons were charged with murder over the killing of lawyer Eric Jay Magcamit in Narra, Palawan, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday, November 26, 2020.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Ariel Pareja, who is under restrictive custody of the Palawan Police Provincial Office, is among those indicted for murder.
He has allegedly been moonlighting as a bodyguard for Marcelino Quioyo, who is also among those charged before the Palawan Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
Administrative charges were also being prepared against Pareja, according to a report from Mimaropa Police Regional Office Director Pascual Muñoz.
Also charged were Jazer del Rosario and six John Does.
Muñoz said Magcamit served as legal counsel to one of the parties involved in a court case over a land dispute. Quioyo was also involved in the case.
Magcamit was gunned down around 6:55 a.m. on November 17 while traversing the National Highway on board his vehicle in Barangay Malinao in Narra, Palawan.
The assailants allegedly flagged him, asked him to step off his vehicle and fired at him. Magcamit died instantly. (SunStar Philippines from PR)
