POEA sets online jobs fair

AS MORE countries open their borders, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) plans to hold an online job fair next week for aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

In a televised public briefing, POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia said the event will be online, instead of a face-to-face activity, in a bid to facilitate employment without the danger of acquiring the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“Instead of a physical job fair, we will have this (online version). We will post the link at the POEA website. We shall directly supervise this event,” Olalia said.

He said the activity is their response to the need for overseas employment opportunities amid the prevailing health crisis.

“This is part of our effort to help our aspiring OFWs find job opportunities abroad in their aim to give their families better lives,” he said.

It is also part of their efforts to counter illegal recruitment activities, which have remained prevalent amid the health crisis.

“The number of scams and illegal recruitment activities has spiked amid this pandemic, particularly in the overseas employment industry,” Olalia said. He did not provide data. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
