Luzon has first boxing show since Covid-19 lockdown

AFTER months of no boxing events due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Luzon will have its first boxing show next month in Rizal, Laguna.

Quibors Boxing Stable will host a four-bout show at the Quibors Training Camp on Dec. 6. The show is headlined by World Boxing Council (WBC) No. 35 ranked minimumweight ArAr Andales taking on Zandy Padiran.

Following back-to-back losses, the 21-year-old Andales scored a huge win over Cebuano Rey Caitom via a fifth round stoppage to win the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) minimumweight belt at Robinsons Galleria Cebu, Cebu City on March 9.

Padiran, on the other hand, is returning from a layoff of over a year. He fought three times in 2019 and went 1-2. His last fight was a unanimous decision defeat in the hands of Gringo Navarro.

Andales is 11-2 with three knockouts, while Padiran is 3-2-1 with a knockout.

In the undercard, undefeated prospect Jerome Baloro (5-0, 3 KOs) will slug it out with Mark Jequinto (4-5-1). Reynold Vargas (1-1-1) will face off with Michael Sarili (1-3), and Jericho Gatchalian (1-0) will square off with newcomer Jumari Mansueto.

Cebu was the first to host a boxing event amid the pandemic with Omega Pro Sports International’s (OPSI) “Kumbati 5” last Oct. 7 at the IPI Compound in Mandaue City. / EKA
