PROMISING Ifugao prospect Carl Jammes Martin is facing experienced Richard Rosales in the second show of Omega Pro Sports International’s (Opsi) two-part boxing event on Dec. 18, 2020 at the IPI Compound in Mandaue City.
“Yes. That’s already sealed,” Opsi vice president Jerome Calatrava told SunStar Cebu. “It’ll be scheduled for 10 rounds but is still pending of GAB’s (Games and Amusements Board) approval.”
The 21-year-old Martin, a native of Lagawe, is seeing action for the first time in 2020. His last fight was a third-round technical knockout of Philip Luis Cuerdo on Dec. 21, 2019 in Manila.
Rosales is coming off a unanimous decision defeat in the hands of International Boxing Federation (IBF) No. 7 rated light flyweight Christian Araneta in Opsi’s first “bubble” boxing event last Oct. 7.
Martin, rated No. 36 in the World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight division, is 15-0 with 14 knockouts, while Rosales is 14-13-2 with eight knockouts.
The Martin vs. Rosales bout will be featured in “Kumbati 7,” which will kick off at 7 p.m.
The main event is a 10-rounder between Araneta (18-1, 14 KOs) and Roland Jay Biendema (15-6-1, 8 KOs).
Pete Apolinar (12-1, 8 KOs) will slug it out with Danny Tampipi (9-11-2, 5 KOs) in the co-main event.
In the undercard, Albert Pagara (32-1, 23 KOs) will lock horns with Virgil Puton (18-14-2, 9 KOs), while Franco Serafia (3-1, 1 KO) will take on Matthew Fondales (1-2).
“Kumbati 6” will kick off 1 p.m. on the same date with five bouts.
WBC No. 9 light flyweight Mark Vicelles (12-0-1, 6 KOs) will face Arnold Garde (10-10-3, 4 KOs) in the main event.
Tomjune Mangubat (11-2-1, 9 KOs) will square off with Reymond Empic (7-5, 3 KOs) in the co-main event.
In the undercard of “Kumbati 6,” Regie Suganob (4-0, 1 KO) will fight Robert Ates (4-7, 2 KOs), Carlo Bacaro (6-0, 5 KOs) will try to keep his unbeaten streak alive against Ryan Maano (5-9-2, 1 KO), while Benny Cañete will make his pro debut against fellow rookie Roque Villagonzalo. (EKA)
