LGUs can hold barangay assemblies until December 31

DEPARTMENT of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Director Arnel Agabe said all local government units have until December 31, 2020 to conduct their Barangay Assembly Days.

If a barangay is not able to conduct their barangay assembly, Agabe said that as stated in the section 6 of DILG MC 2020-137, the corresponding administrative complaint against barangay officials who fail to conduct a barangay assembly may be filed by any resident of the barangay, concerned citizen, governmental or non-governmental entity before the Sangguniang Panglungsod or Sangguniang Bayan.

According to the DILG-Northern Mindanao's monitoring report on the conduct of barangay assembly for the second semester of 2020, the region has recorded a total of 2,022 number of barangays, 426 of which have conducted their barangay assembly while 44 have not.

The region also has a total of 41,856 attendees.

Agabe further said that for the monitoring of those who complied with minimum public health standards during the conduct of their barangay assembly, the city and municipal mayors must ensure adherence of all barangays with the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) guidelines.

The village chiefs must also adhere to the IATF guidelines with the help of the DILG Field Officers to remind the barangays about the guidelines on mass gatherings and such, he added.
