Tolentino reelected POC president after edging Aranas, 30-22

CAVITE lawmaker and cycling chief Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino earned another term as Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president after edging archery head lawyer Clint Aranas, 30-22, during the POC election held at East Ocean Palace restaurant in Parañaque on Friday, November 27, 2020.

Tolentino will be serving POC until December 31, 2024.

Aranas' running mate and incumbent chairman Steve Hontiveros of handball was able to keep his post after beating triathlon chief Tom Carrasco in close voting, 28-25.

On the other hand, basketball’s Al Panlilio edged athletics’ Philip Ella Juico, 30-23, to be elected first vice president as Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez of fencing and modern pentathlon bested Ada Milby of rugby, 31-22 for the second vice president position.

Gymnastics Cynthia Carrion-Norton ousted wushu’s Julian Camacho as POC treasurer, 27-22, as baseballs Chito Loyzaga beat weightlifting chief Monico Puentevella in a close battle, 27-24, for auditor.

Earning chairs in the executive board are Dr. Raul Canlas (surfing), Pearl Managuelod (Muay Thai), Lawyer Charlie Ho (netball) and Dave Carter (judo).

A total of 53 votes were cast. These votes came from 50 national sporting associations, two from Athletes' Commission representatives and from Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski, Philippine representative to the International Olympic Committee.

With POC election is over, various NSAs return their focus to a busy 2021 as it participates in several major sporting events like the postponed Tokyo Olympics, the 31st Southeast Asian Games, Asian Youth Games, and the Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games, among the few.
