7 arrested for 'tupada' in Samar

JOINT police operatives arrested on Monday afternoon, November 30, 2020, seven persons who allegedly engaged in illegal cockfighting or “tupada” in Barangay Lokilokon, Paranas, Samar despite the prevailing health measures on social distancing.

The suspects were mostly farmers and residents of the said barangay.

Confiscated from their possession and control were four pieces of live fighting cocks, three pieces of dead fighting cocks and bet money amounting to P1,720.

Operating units from Paranas Municipal Police Station, led by Major Rex Baysa Pabunan, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion-802nd Mobile Company led by Captain Proven Troy Castro, brought all the arrested suspects to the police station for proper documentation.

The suspects will be facing charges for violation of Presidential Decree 449 (Cockfighting Law of 1974) as amended by Presidential Decree 1602, which prescribes stiffer penalties for illegal gambling.
