Police eye grudge as motive in Murcia slay

THE Murcia Police Station is eyeing old grudge as motive in the murder of a father in front of his son in Barangay Sta. Rosa, Murcia on Sunday, November 29.

Lieutenant John Paul Tabujara, head of Murcia Municipal Police Station, said the victim, identified as Leonardo Garcia Jr., 34, was sitting outside his house with his minor son when he was shot by a motorcycle-riding gunman.

The victim was rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Recovered from the crime scene were four empty shells of .45 caliber pistol.

Tabujara said although the victim had a dying confession that he did not recognize the gunman, investigation showed that the gunman, who is still at large, may have risked back against the victim who reportedly tipped off authorities of the alleged possession of illegal firearms of the gunman.

The gunman, who was imprisoned for illegal possession of firearms, is out on bail, Tabujara added.

He said the victim has no bad record in the barangay and that his family believes that the suspect is behind the killing.
