Eat, chill at new ‘tuslob buwa’ spot

It’s nothing fancy but it’s still a massive hit: Tuslob Buwa is a popular Cebuano street food that is made with pork liver and brain, garlic, shrimp paste, onions and chili.

It’s prepared on a stove right in the middle of the dining table. When the mixture thickens into a bubbly stew, diners then take their pieces of puso (hanging rice) and dip them right in. It’s a meal that’s fast, fun and flavorful. Because of its popularity, food entrepreneurs are making their own version of this famous street food—keeping it as a prominent and a go-to food trip entrée.

Veronica Castillo, Ken Hubahib, Ruby Pansoy and Axlle Jakosalem elevated the tuslob buwa and street food experience by setting up a one-stop street food hub, 8Flix & Chill, on San Isidro Road, Talisay City. Now, they have a newly opened branch nestled at the parking lot of Queensland Manor, Rahmann St., Cebu City.

To uphold the authentic tuslob buwa and street food experience, 8Flix & Chill opted to go with a simple and industrial look with comfortable seating and al fresco dining. Its Talisay branch can accommodate up to 15 diners at the same time, while its Cebu City branch can accommodate up to 30 customers with social distancing.

Aside from its unlimited tuslob buwa offering, one can also delight in street food favorites such as dynamite (meat filling, cheese and finger chili peppers rolled in a lumpia wrapper), stuffed eggs, siomai, longganisa, ginabot, chicken proven, ngohiong, ice candy in different flavors for dessert and its innovation: Cebu’s Buwa Lamaw (food-to-go bowl consisting of rice, boiled egg, siomai, and buwa (pig’s brain gravy) as toppings).

Founder Castillo recreated her late grandmother’s eclectic taste of tuslob buwa and was inspired to share the flavor of the tuslob buwa that she grew up with, leading her to open a small nook in Talisay City.

8Flix & Chill Talisay branch is open from 12 noon to 9 p.m., while the Queensland Manor branch is open from 12 noon to 8:30 p.m.
