Cordillera Covid-19 cases near 6,000

SINCE the start of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic in March, the Department of Health (DOH)-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) has recorded 5,741 coronavirus infections in the region as of December 1.

DOH-CAR, however, posted a 90.6 percent recovery rate or 5,202 were given a clean bill of health after getting infected.

Dr. Jennifer Joyce Pira, Medical Officer 4 of DOH-CAR, said the region now ranks ninth among the 17 regions in the country with the most number of Covid-19 cases.

"As of December 1, the Cordillera Administrative Region has an additional 362 cases or a 6.73 percent increase in positive Covid-19 cases that have been added to the November 25 data," Pira said.

Pira added that 478 cases were admitted to the different health facilities with five in critical and 23 are severe.

The medical officer said death toll is now at 61 with fatality rate of 1.06 percent.

"The critical care utilization rate is at 44.90 percent with more males being affected by the virus than females. Baguio City has the most number of cases with 3,031 cases followed by Benguet with 2,073. Clustering of cases were noted in areas where mass gatherings have been observed in various work places, households and commercial public areas within the region," Pira said.

DOH-CAR noted that although the region continues to record Covid-19 cases, its health management is highly considerable based on its 90.6 percent recovery rate.

"The recovery rate is high and we get that from our health care system which is very caring and the support, aside from the person itself who recovers well to which they strictly follow health protocols upon recovery. We would like to congratulate the Cordillera region who aside from having a high recovery rate, the Cordilleran's are very aware of our present health pandemic aside from having a high resistance level," Pira added.

CAR is one of the three regions with high testing capacity rate, which is vital in identifying coronavirus cases.
