IN THE 1960's when an aunt gave way to severe depression, doctors gave her the shock treatment. This I learned from her siblings who described the process as running a sudden bolt of electricity in her body, in what was then regarded as a scientific measure to bring her back to good sense.
The dire prophecies being given to modern-day mystics are like such shock treatment, with decadent mankind as patient. We all are getting the shock via the terrifying prophecies but, unlike in the case of psychological depression, there has to be a willful reaction for the treatment to succeed.
In the spiritual sense, the success of such treatment is supposed to give us peace and courage to face the hard times to come. Many mystics are saying, however, that chastisement has become imminent, that response to the call for conversion could only lessen, but no longer scrap the wrath of Heaven.
Canadian mystic Fr. Michel Rodrigue said in March this year that tribulation would start in the fall of this year (fall is the season in the West that occurs in October and November). If what he said is true, then we are now at the beginning of the tribulation. His prophecy somehow rhymes with what other mystics have said recently: Covid-19 was not even part of the start of the tribulation, but something like a preparatory stage to the years of chastisement.
Noted Catholic writer Michael Brown is of the view that dire events that have happened this year, 2020, was a preparatory stage that needed response to the appeals from Heaven. But he lamented that "instead of taking stock, and heeding the warning from God -- instead of fasting and donning sackcloth -- we deny and defy it. We do the opposite of what we should -- finding ways still to gorge ourselves and pretend that God is not speaking to us through nature."
This, he said, is despite the gravity of unfortunate events that have happened this year, as he noted that "at least 207 natural disasters were recorded globally in the first six months of 2020."
Indeed, this fall in the US, political fallout is spreading after the November 2 presidential elections, even as Covid-19 has surged as never before in many states, even in Europe.
"In the US, which beguilingly leads the world in Covid fatalities, it was also a year that witnessed the greatest number of landfalls by tropical systems in recorded history (storms and hurricanes); civil disruptions (as not seen in decades); massive tornadic systems across the land; and floods; as well as wildfires that in California easily broke all-time marks, destroying acreage that collectively surpassed the single greatest wildfire, the Peshtigo one in 1871, by tens of thousands of acres (and counting)," Brown noted in his spiritdaily.org website.
Brown noted that "the US has not seen a year like this since we have been following the "prophetic pulse" (not even in 2001, the year of 9/11) and the question we must ask ourselves: why?"
"Peshtigo was foreseen precisely by the Virgin Mary as a 'chastisement' (that was the word she used) in an appearance right in the vicinity of the Peshtigo River near Green Bay twelve years before, the only apparition in US history (as well as Canada) fully approved by the Church (by way of a bishop's pastoral letter)," he also said.
The "chastisements will differ according to regions, and like the great evil, will not always or usually be immediately noticeable for what they are."

The regional scope of some prophesied chastisements seem reflected in the following message from the Blessed Mother to Blessed Elena Aiello on Good Friday of 1960 as follows:
"How youth lives in perdition! How many innocent souls find themselves enwrapped in a chain of scandals. The world has become as a flooded valley, overflowing with filth and mud. Some of the most difficult trials of Divine Justice are yet to come, before the deluge of fire.
"I, for a long time, have advised men in many ways, but they do not listen to my maternal appeals, and they continue to walk the paths of perdition. But soon terrifying manifestations will be seen, which will make even the most obdurate sinners tremble!
"Great calamities will come upon the world, which will bring confusion, tears, struggles and pain. Great earthquakes will swallow up entire cities and countries, and will bring epidemics, famine, and terrible destruction especially where the sons of darkness are.
"In these tragic hours, the world has need of prayers and penance, because the Pope, the priests, and the Church are in danger. If we do not pray, Russia will march upon all of Europe, and particularly upon Italy, bringing much more ruin and havoc! Hence the priests must be in the front line of defense of the Church, by example and sanctity in life, for materialism is breaking forth in all nations and evil prevails over good."
"The rulers of the people do not understand this, because they do not have the Christian spirit; in their blindness, do not see the truth.
"In Italy, some leaders like rapacious wolves in sheep's' clothing, while calling themselves Christians - open the door to materialism, and, fostering dishonest actions, will bring Italy to ruin; but many of them, too, will fall in confusion."
"Propagate the devotions to my Immaculate Heart, of Mother of Mercy, Mediatrix of men, who believe in the mercy of God, and of the Queen of the Universe.
"I will manifest my partiality for Italy, which will be preserved from the fire, but the skies will be covered with dense darkness, and the earth will be shaken by fearful earthquakes which will open deep abysses. Provinces and cities will be destroyed, and all will cry out that the end of the world has come! Even Rome will be punished according to justice for its many and serious sins, because here sin has reached its peak.
"Pray, and lose no time, lest it be too late; since dense darkness surrounds the earth and the enemy is at the doors!" (To be continued)
