BASED on the latest laboratory results of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and local government units, shellfishes collected at coastal waters of Bataan are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison that is beyond the regulatory limit.
This include coastal areas in Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Hermosa, Orani, Abucay and Samal.
The BFAR said that all types of shellfish and alamang gathered from these areas are not safe for human consumption.
Fish, squids, shrimps and crabs are safe for human consumption provided that they are fresh and washed thoroughly, and internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed before cooking.
Aside from Bataan, BFAR also raised the red tide warning on the coastal waters of coastal waters of Biliran Islands, coastal waters of Calubian and Leyte in Leyte, coastal waters of Guiuan in Eastern Samar, and Cambatutay Bay in Western Samar.
BFAR and the Provincial Government of Bataan are continuously monitoring the affected areas to safeguard public health and protect the fishery industry.
