Moreno says he will not disallow fireworks in Oro

CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno Thursday, December 3, said he will not disallow the use of fireworks in the city during the holiday celebrations, however, it should be used in the designated area.

According to Moreno, prior to the pandemic, fireworks and firecrackers can only be sold by authorized sellers and in a specific location.

"Naay mga criteria nga pagasundon before one get authorized. And then kinahanglan didto ra sa authorized place ra gyud sya. So, dili enough nga naa kay lisensya, you have to sell didto sa authorized place," Moreno said.

"Daghan ang problema sa fireworks: sunog, injuries and all that, mao na nga gi-regulate gyud sa gobyerno," he added.

The city mayor further said while he does allow the use of fireworks, the fireworks being sold and used must not be illegal.

"Wala ko mag-decide nga i-disallow ang fireworks. Ang ako lang is I believe in the sound discretion sa komunidad nga magbantay," Moreno said.

He added the guidelines on the selling and using of fireworks and firecrackers will be created by the Department of the Interior and Local Government city director.
