Mankayan records first Covid-19 death

A 59-YEAR-OLD male from Barangay Paco in Mankayan, Benguet is the first Covid-19 death-related case recorded in the municipality.

On Wednesday, December 2, the local government unit confirmed the male patient died due to acute respiratory distress syndrome secondary to Covid-19.

During his stay at the Lepanto Hospital, the fatality was swabbed, and his result showed he was positive for the virus.

Mayor Frenzel Ayong said the deceased is a retired employee of Lepanto Consolidated Mining Corporation (LCMC) and a resident of Barangay Paco.

Ayong said it was on November 10 when the town recorded a confirmed case involving a mine worker of LCMC.

As of December 2, there are 285 active cases in Benguet with 1,777 recoveries out of the 2,080 confirmed cases and 18 deaths.

La Trinidad has 113 active cases, followed by Mankayan with 98, Tuba with 35, and Itogon with 25.

It was in August this year when Benguet recorded its first Covid-19 death from Itogon.
